Early start taking advantage of the clocks going back I headed to Bigbury
for a low tide run at the onshore winds. The rain was horrendous on the way
with a lot of flooding but it had all but stopped when I arrived. The wind
was a solid F6 but bang onshore with the waves breaking mast high out back.
I opted for the Ezzy again to get the measure of it though my initial
impressions were for a 4.7. As I rigged the sky cleared and the sun started
to break through, this wasn't good as it signalled the parting of the
isobars so I hurried to get changed.
First run I pumped onto the plane and was outrunning a head high wall of
water. The Ezzy was superb and delivered in the iffy winds. I gybed over at
the Bantham side, opposite the River and came out into a lull. The current
caught my rail and flipped the board dumping me in the water and sucking my
rig straight under!! I launched again but was way down wind/current and
ended up with a bit of a walk. That was it. Several abortive attempts in
the fickle dying winds trying to get through head high walls of water that
were coming from the same direction as the wind ended up with a lot of
swimming.
Not a total loss as I got a good hint at the Ezzy's performance but a
frustrating end to a weekend were, once again, there was a lot promised but
so little delivered.
